Сегодня в Элладе большой национальный праздник, мы празднуем освобождение и свободу от османов. Я надеюсь и верю, что Беларусь скоро тоже станет свободной демократической страной со свободой слова и правосудия.

День независимости Греции – национальный праздник, ежегодно отмечаемый в Греции 25 марта в память о начале войны за независимость Греции в 1821 году. Он совпадает с празднованием греческой православной церковью Благовещения Богородицы, когда архангел Гавриил явился Марии и сказал ей, что она родит сына Божьего.

Греция входила в состав Османской империи с 1453 года. Греческое восстание началось 25 марта 1821 года, когда епископ Германос из Патры поднял флаг революции над монастырем Агия Лавра на Пелопоннесе. Клич “Свобода или смерть” стал девизом революции. Греки добились первых успехов на поле боя, включая взятие Афин в июне 1822 года, но после этого начались междоусобицы. Today is a big National Holiday in Hellas. We celebrate the Liberation and Freedom of the Ottomans’. I hope and believe that Belarus will soon also be a Free Democratic Country with freedom of Speech and Justice.

Greek Independence Day is a national holiday celebrated annually in Greece on March 25, commemorating the start of the War of Greek Independence in 1821. It coincides with the Greek Orthodox Church’s celebration of the Annunciation to the Theotokos when the Archangel Gabriel appeared to Mary and told her that she would bear the son of God.

Greece had been part of the Ottoman Empire since 1453. The Greek revolt was precipitated on March 25, 1821, when Bishop Germanos of Patras raised the flag of revolution over the Monastery of Agia Lavra in the Peloponnese. The cry “Freedom or Death” became the motto of the revolution. The Greeks experienced early successes on the battlefield, including the capture of Athens in June 1822, but infighting ensued. By 1827 Athens and most of the Greek isles had been recaptured by the Turks.

This day is also Freedom Day for Belarus; what a coincidence (!?).
